BMW iX1 xDrive30 M Sport in Malaysia: 313 PS, 64.7 kWh, 440 km EV range; RM272k. 2023

The iX1, BMW’s all-electric version of the U11 X1 shown worldwide in June, has been officially unveiled in Malaysia. The iX1, the first generation of the X1, will be sold in Malaysia in a single xDrive30 M Sport trim with a starting price of RM272,370 (on-the-road, excluding insurance).

The price rises to RM285,800 if you want to buy the optional extended warranty and service plan for five years. The electric vehicle’s battery is covered under warranty for eight years or 160,000 kilometers, and buyers also receive roadside support, BMW Service Online, and the BMW Group Loyalty+ Mobile App – BMW Privileges Card.

Both of the iX1’s electric motors, one for each axle, are rated at 190 PS (188 hp or 140 kW) and 247 Nm of torque, thanks to the automaker’s fifth-generation eDrive technology.

Total system output for the all-wheel drive configuration is 272 PS (268 hp or 200 kW) and 494 Nm, but peak horsepower is increased to 313 PS (308 hp or 230 kW) via a temporary boost function during rapid acceleration.

The result is a tiny Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) with a top speed of 180 km/h and a 0-100 km/h time of 5.7 seconds. A lithium-ion battery pack installed under the floorboard supplies juice to the electric motors; its 64.7 kWh capacity provides enough juice for a range of 440 km according to the WLTP standard.

The iX1 can be charged by DC fast charging (CCS2 connection) up to a maximum of 130 kW; this can bring the battery from empty to 80% full in just 29 minutes. AC charging (Type 2 connector) at 11 kW takes 6.5 hours to fully recharge the battery and is another option.

Only the dedicated “i” badging on the grille and the blue ring around the BMW roundel distinguish the iX1 from a standard, non-EV X1. An aggressive front bumper with a hexagonal lower intake and large air curtains are included in the standard M Sport kit. Satinated aluminum grille slats and the M High-gloss Shadowline package are also featured.

The rear bumper, meanwhile, has a diffuser-like element and a huge blacked-out part like on the newest 3 Series. The iX1 is based on the X1, and like that car it is longer (4,500 mm), wider (1,845 mm), and has a longer wheelbase (2,692 mm; +22 mm) than the previous F48 model. The iX1’s height is 1,616 mm, while that of the internal combustion engine models is 1,642 mm.

A bigger front grille and redesigned headlamps (adaptive LEDs for our market) with inverted L-shaped bars marking out the daytime running light signature are also part of the X1’s facelift for increased presence. The rear LED taillights have an L-shaped light signature and are connected to the rest of the vehicle by smoother surfaces.

The interior mimics the U06 2 Series Active Tourer’s dashboard layout, with the BMW Curved Display (a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch central infotainment touchscreen) taking center stage. Both use BMW’s Operating System 8, which powers the Live Cockpit Professional setup and features a bespoke voice assistant in addition to compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Additionally, the rotary controller common to iDrive systems is absent from the elevated center console. The only controls are for the media system and the vehicle’s start/stop button (a switch). The wireless phone charger and cupholders are integrated into the vertical space just before of this region.

The iX1 comes equipped with the following features as standard equipment: welcome lights, M leather steering wheel, M anthracite headliner, aluminium ‘Hexacube’ dark trim, ambient lighting, powered front sport seats with driver-side memory function, dual-zone climate control, a head-up display, a Harman Kardon Hi-Fi sound system, Digital Key Plus, adaptive M suspension, and Connected Package Professional.

The Driving Assistant Plus bundles a number of helpful driver aids together into one convenient package: hill start assist, speed limiter, attentiveness assistant, lane departure warning with active steering intervention, front collision warning, left turn warning (both with braking function), speed limit information, evasion aid, and active cruise control (stop/go). In addition to this, there is now Parking Assistant Plus, which features a 360-degree camera and a reversing aid.

Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Cape York Green, M Portimao Blue, Storm Bay, and Space Silver are the six exterior color options for the iX1. You can choose from Alcantara Black with Blue Contrast Stitching, Black, or Mocha Vernasca leather upholstery for the cabin.
