Businesses in Aiken are demonstrating support for a 13-year-old who was shot at the Walmart on Whiskey Road earlier this week and is currently recuperating.
After the news of the shooting emerged, individuals from across the United States began flooding Ashton and her family’s social media accounts with messages of support.
Complete strangers are joining forces to shed some light on this gloomy situation.
On Facebook, the hashtag #AshtonStrong is attracting the attention of people from across the country, but the residents of Aiken want her to know that she has an extensive network of support at home.
If you search for Rickard’s name on social media, every single post is a prayer.
Max Watt, co-owner of Vikki’s A Unique Boutique, stated, “I don’t think a minute passed after the event before it was all over Facebook and my texts.”
She has reached individuals in Florida, Alabama, Missouri, Texas, and Oregon. In addition, she has her own support network at home in Aiken.
Vikki Woody, co-owner of Vikki’s A Unique Boutique, remarked, “I have no idea what it is about Aiken. I have no idea what the appeal is or why it is so close. However, Aiken unites and supports.”
It is a tiny community with a large heart.
“As a small business, there is nothing more important than giving back to the community, because it gives back to you.” It is a child and a member of our community. “What are our plans?” asked Woody.
“Fashion for Ashton” is one method to donate at Vikki’s Boutique. Picking up a marker and writing a get-well card is another option.
The proprietor of Soulshine Yoga and Wellness, Dawn Billeci, stated, “I’m always wanting to do something. But, you must admit, it was something. It was a beginning.”
From the very beginning, Aiken united under the hashtag #AshtonStrong.
Every day, bad things happen in the world. And there is nothing we can do to change it. But we can make the most of each day by finding gratitude for something, sharing compassion with others, lifting others up, and coming together as a community, as Billeci stated.
On Thursday at 5 p.m., you can send off cards for Rickard at the American Legion Post 26 in Aiken, and on Saturday, 25 percent of sales at both Vikki’s boutique locations will be donated to Rickard and her family.
According to Rickard’s family on Facebook, she will spend two more days in the ICU and then approximately 10 days in a regular room. Otherwise, her family reports that she is thriving.
