Axe-throwing in Oaklawn Village has reopened under new ownership and a new name.
ShinDigs, formerly Sling Blades, had a soft opening June 9 and a big opening Friday at 6 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m. Axe-throwing owner Kevin Hancock advises booking lanes early.
“We will have food, live music, and it’ll just be a good time for families,” Hancock said. “First responders, military, and law enforcement with ID or badges get half off at $20 per hour.”
Hancock reopened the unique activity for families. Hancock remodeled the company extensively.
The retro, hip-themed lounge social facility with bright red walls has axe-throwing lanes, pool tables, indoor and outdoor rage rooms, karaoke, a dance floor, and more.
Rage chambers allow players to damage TVs, fax machines, and other small goods. ShinDigs will supply safety gear. The outdoor rage chamber lets users bash cars.
Axe-throwing and rage rooms are common now.
A coach will teach beginners how to throw axes at the location. Hancock and his wife started axe-throwing in 2020, sold it, then purchased it back.
The owner claimed signing a waiver takes a few minutes. All activities are 10+.
Adults can BYOB. “We don’t sell alcohol,” Hancock remarked. ShinDigs sells canned beverages, snacks, and candies.
It features a private party room. Hancock reported a gender reveal booking.
Since Texarkana has few options for teens, Hancock decided to create a family-friendly company.
“I wanted to create a safe space for everyone,” Hancock added. “I want two people who would never have talked to each other could show up in my building and be friends for life.”
Hancock rejected offers to operate a business somewhere before launching. He claimed he wants to change the area’s reputation. He wants to build a site people will remember for years.
